Sandrine Videault - the perfumer

Sandrine Videault, one of the last students of Edmond Roudnitska, is a well known perfumer for its historical fragrances and olfactive shows. For her the fragrance is a poly sensorial experience where all the senses are involved. That's why, perhaps, she did many olfactive shows or olfactive decorations. One of the most impressive realizations she did is the recreation of the mythical Kyphi for the Cairo Museum in 2002.

Perfumes
« Ambre Indien », ESTEBAN, Paris « La Rose de Carole Bouquet », TRUFFAUT, Paris « Le Kyphi » Cairo Museum

Olfactive illustrations
« L’Ecume des Sens », after a text from Boris Vian, Cité de la Villette , Paris
« Afrikabrak dans tous les Sens », after the sculptures of Hervé Di Rosa, Musée en Herbe, Paris
Olfactive shows
« Le Cantique des Sens », Palais des Congrès, Paris « La Beauté de l’Egypte ancienne » SEPHORA - Champs-Elysées, Paris « Les Bulles Métalliques », Foire Internationale des Arts Contemporains (F.I.A.C), Paris

Olfactive decorations
Pavillon Français du Salon International de l’Horticulture, Kunming, Chine Stand du GIE Destination Nouvelle – Calédonie, Deauville

Here you have an interview with Sandrine Videault, unfortunatelly in French, were she explains her fragrance style and inspiration

IFF Prize

From the Perfumer & Flavorist news:

"IFF (New York) has once again challenged fashion design students from The Royal Academy of Fine Arts (Antwerp, Belgium) to reconceptualize fragrance application and marketing. This year’s winner is Marc-Philippe Coudeyre, whose winning concept was so impressive it’s not being revealed to the press. The only information IFF would divulge about the winning concept is that it delivers fragrance in a totally new channel of distribution, links music to fragrance and can be presented as a fashion accessory or collectible item. Coudeyre and IFF are currently working on bringing the idea to market. Within the themes of themes of the contest—power, luxury, pleasure and connecting people—the students had total creative freedom to design. In preparation for the contest, students were given smelling sessions and lectured in fragrance design by IFF perfumer Sophie Labbe. The projects were judged by a panel of experts including IFF executives, fashion designers, journalists and faculty from the academy. Of the competition, IFF North American regional manager and senior vice president, fine fragrance and beauty care Nicolas Mirzayantz said, “IFF is at the forefront of creativity and one of the ways we continue to do this is by partnering with the young talents that are the future of the fashion, design and beauty worlds. It is IFF’s philosophy to intertwine with many artistic fields, and fashion is one of the most influential and inspirational to the fragrance world.”

Unfortunatelly there is no aditional information on IFF site neither on The Royal Academy of Fine Arts site. I would be interested in the content of the smelling sessions and lectures in the fragrance design given by Sophie Labbe.

MUST SEE: the virtual aroma synthesiser

The virtual aroma synthesiser (VAS), a proprietary sensory measurement instrument from Givaudan, is a tool that I wish to see, test and use.
It allows Givaudan's customers to create their own fragrances. The VAS consists of a series of jars, each containing an aroma compound. A stream of nitrogen flows through selected jars and the aroma compounds mix together. Customers can smell the resultant mixture and adjust the concentrations of individual compounds until they find an aroma that they are happy with.
Unfortunatelly the information about VAS is scarce on the web, even on Givaudan site. Does anyone have a picture or details about this tool?
